Never again am I gonna bother paying to see your ass after last night.

I shoulda known, everyone said Ruby Skye was a douchey frat boy hangout and damn, they sure proved that the rumors were true. "Doors open at 8" my ass, your drunk stoned ass didn't bother coming on 'til 5 minutes to midnight. Meanwhile we're trapped in the full-of-itself Ruby Skye pretentiousness - no ins and outs, no smoking patio, $7 for a bottle of fucking Amstel light!

You finally come on after your opening act DJ played the longest set of his life, poor thing, trying to keep us interested. You were stoned or drunk or didn't give a fuck or all three. You didn't even have a set list and for 3-5 minutes between each song you berated your DJ on the mic while you guys tried to figure out what to play next.

DISRESPECT!! What the hell happened? You owe me $92, sucka, for the tickets for me and my girlfriend and our three beers apiece trying to numb the pain until someone who used to be one of our favorites took the stage. Bitch.

Don't see Mos Def at Mezzanine tonight! He shows no love for the Bay!!!

Get your act together Mos. I used to love you and last night really made me reevaluate that.

Dopetracks is an online recording studio where bedroom emcees and budding producers meet and collaborate.

If you're a vocalist you just pick a beat, plug in a mic and that's it. I tried it last night but the site seemed down or something.
Could be blowing up. But it's done well.

I'm taking a trip out to San Bernardino to catch the Rock the Bells show in August and I must say...I'm hella excited! This show may not be a big deal to those of you that already live in majorly banging cities but to someone like me, this is a HUGE DEAL. I'm from El Paso, Texas. Big music festivals NEVER happen here. And the underground scene is burried extra deep where I'm at. So yeah. Way excited. Way excited.

ABC Television Casting--$20,000

Hello all!

My name is Michelle Silva, and I am a Casting Producer for ABC's Wife Swap. The casting department uses Tribe and MySpace as way to find people with specific interests. For our third season, we are currently looking for Hip Hop families! Hip Hop isn’t just about music; it’s a way of life. We want to find a family that lives for Hip Hop and can teach another family about their way of life. Our show reaches millions of people across America, and it’s a great way to expose some of the myths and misunderstandings people may have about the Hip Hop lifestyle. Not to mention, it’s great exposure for aspiring musicians!

Wife Swap is the series where two moms switch houses for six days and live in the shoes of the other woman. Please visit our website for more information: http://abc.go.com/primetime/wifeswap/index.html

If you are not interested in this oppurtunity, maybe you know someone who might be? Any person who refers a featured family receives a $1,000 referral award.

In order to apply for the show, families must have two parents and at least one child between the ages of 6-18 still living at home.

Families selected to appear on the show receive $20,000 from ABC Television.

If you or anyone you know are interested in applying, please email me at michelle.silva@rdfusa.com or call me directly at (212) 404-1470. Thanks for your time.

We call it
the Golden year
of the Golden Age.

It was the year
Rap renegade Rakim
ruled the True School
with innovative, creative
grammatical gems.

The previous year,
Ladies Love Cool J
dropped Radio
Before that
we stopped on the block
to witness the Planet Rock.

Let's have a moment of Silence for Scott LaRock.

We wore fat gold ropes
and bangle ear rings.

We sported Gucci, Troop suits
and Addidas with wide shoe strings.

Run DMC were the new Kings
of Rock n Rap.

This was before the gun clap.

When we would
give each other dap
and say "Peace Black."

EPMD recorded Strictly Business
provoking us to walk in our 'hoods
tellin' each other "You gots to chill"
Those times were Ill.

It was all about skills.
It was all about skills.
It was all about skills
when it came time to Rhyme.

Slick Rick the Ruler
was still in his prime.

Boom boxes flooded Ghetto streets
pumping fat beats to rich oratorical speech.
A medallion could leave you blind -
culture then was time-less.

KRS-One and Boogie Down Productions
let us know why they were Criminal Minded.

These are beloved memories.

At this very moment
I can see myself and kats
situated in front of the T.V.
bobbin' our heads to
the latest videos on YO MTV Raps.

I grinned when I first heard Paper Thin.
MC Lyte's poetic delight proved women
could be just as dope as men.
Lyte as a rock was like a shot
in the ribs when you and your man
played slap box in the crib.
Sista was like: dig, this is what real rap is.

This was 1987. This was 1987. 1987 y'all.

Just saw Dave Chappelle's Block Party on DVD, it was "off the hook"!

Mos Def was hella' funny as well as one of best acts. I wish they would have shown more of the show and less of the stuff in between, but it was still very entertaining.

I highly recommend it.

Was anyone at the Sunday show at the Mezzinine? All the artists were amazing but what's up with the Bay Area crowd? I expected a little more from SF, just moving here and all... Is this what the hip hop scene is like here or was it just people who didn't appreciate?

3 black panthers and the last slav plantation

hey all

we are filmmakers and organizers working on a film about
three former black panthers known as the angola 3.

two of them have been in solitary confinement for over 32 years and the third was released in 2001 after 29 years in solitary.
they are recognized us political prisoners by amnesty intn'l.

they have a case pending in the US supreme court that could change the face of solitary isolation/confinement for ALL prisoners in the coming years.

we are inviting all of you to join our tribe to build a grassroots connection
about our film "3 BLaCK PaNTHERS and the LSP" and these mens cases. we are not promoting this film for profit or to sell anything, but to use our privileges to support these men's struggles.

our film is narrated by Mumia Abu-Jamal from death row in pennsylvania.

You can check out the site for the latest on the Angola 3:
www.Angola3.org
or
www.3blackpanthers.com for the latest film updates.

We will have periodic updates on the cases of the ANGOLA 3 and for our film
on our tribe.

help us grow our network and friends. we are relying SOLELY on word of mouth about the film. this film is a labor of comradely love and belief that these men and ALL political prisoners and POW's in the US should be released immediately!!!!

"free the Angola 3, Free Mumia, free ALL political prisoners..."
-chairman fred hampton jr.

thanks from obstacle illusions media,

Hip-hop's premier scholarly MC returns to drop sonic A-bombs on lesser lyricists and restore hope among those struggling to find meaning in the ruins of rap's gallingly vacuous empire of Bling.

Kweli will unveil his sophomore album, "The Beautiful Struggle," Sept. 28 via Rawkus. The first single "I Try" features Mary J. Blige, while other guests dropping in on the album include Res, Faith Evans, Kweli's Black Star colleague Mos Def and producers Just Blaze, Kayne West and Charlamagne.

It is an explosive aural stockade of rhymes touching on issues ranging from his own ashy-knuckled New York upbringing to the plight of AIDS-infected orphans in Sierra Leone.

Kweli's ascension to the top has been a long time coming. Gaining notoriety as one-half of the groups Black Star (with childhood friend Mos Def) in 1998 and then Reflection Eternal (with Cincinnati DJ Hi-Tek) in 2000, the cerebral MC, due to his insightful, well-crafted lyrics and passionate delivery, has long been considered one of the most prolific rappers in the game.

Talib Kweli Speaks on the State of Conscience Rap...

Kweli here talks about a Black Star reunion, his new album and possibly acting, among things.

---------

After amasing critical acclaim with his first two solo LP's, Talib Kweli's current buzz is likely to land him the commercial success that has eluded him to date. Here, Kweli speaks on Black Star, his record label and 'conscious' rap.

It's already been six years since Black Star's first and only record. As fans impatiently await the reunion, Kweli breaks down the reasoning behind the group's extended hiatus.

"Timing is everything. The assumption is the fans want it so that's a good enough reason to do it. It's not. That would disrespect the music. The reason to do it would be, just because the timing is right," Kweli told SOHH from Geffen Records conference room in Manhattan.

"Me and Mos have talked about it for a long time. I was friends with him before I did that album. Our relationship is based on a friendship, not based on a rap group. I see Mos all the time. There's no pressure between me and him. I'm more interested in Mos Def as my friend than Mos Def as my partner in Black Star and it's hard to explain that to people because they want the album. I wanna hear the album too, I would love to hear the album, but we can't be doing it just because."

Meanwhile, Mos is quickly gaining respect in Hollywood. However, Kweli isn't concerned about venturing onto the big screen.

"I went to acting school and I got the chops for it," Kweli revealed regarding a possible acting career. "Any time people ask that question I say, yeah if you got a script. But I'm not about to pursue it."

Since the release of his last album, Kweli has been busy touring the world as well as putting out his Beautiful Struggle mixtape. With heavyweights like Jay-Z and 50 Cent praising his skills and an album leaked, the BK emcee is presently enjoying the biggest buzz of his career. However, his record label seems to be out of the loop on how hot he really is right now.

"They're still a little slow on the buzz. They're just now getting it over the last couple of weeks. I've really been grinding," Kweli offered. "Geffen's office is in Santa Monica, California. It's a beautiful place, but they're isolated. These people in those offices, they go to work every day and they sit around in meetings trying to figure out who's hot. That don't really work. You gotta be out in the world. And it's nothing against them. I had to learn how to work within their systems and it's just been a little foreign to me. But now, I'm starting to learn how to make it pop a little bit. My only recourse is to develop and be so large that they can't ignore it."

Part of Kweli's buzz is arguably due to the current re-emergence of 'conscious' Hip-Hop. Within the past year, Black Eyed Peas and Jadakiss have both hit big with political records. Here, Kweli weighs in on the success of thought-provoking singles.

"Jadakiss has a song on his last album called "Optimistic" with the girl from Sounds Of Blackness singing on it. Very, very conscious record. He even released it as his third single. But the climate was a little bit different. It's not that Jadakiss wasn't on that sh!t. It's just now the climate is right for him to do it," Talib explained. "If Jadakiss released that 'Optimistic' song right now, that sh!t would be platinum and playing right along 'Jesus Walks.' I do agree that it's a little bit easier now and I do agree that Kanye had a lot to do with it."

Earlier this year, an unmixed, un-mastered version of Talib's The Beautiful Struggle was leaked onto the streets, causing the LP to be pushed back and forcing him to make numerous changes on the CD. Now with the new version ready to go, Talib feels confident his third solo effort will be successful.

"I like this album. It's beautiful. I'm very proud of it. I can't wait for it to come out because I think the people deserve this album, especially the people that went and got the bootleg version and the unmixed version. I think they deserve to hear how it's supposed to sound."

The Beautiful Struggle hits the streets officially this summer.

It's not gonna come out until Sept. 23 apparently. He is pretty much re-doin the album, although some of the stuff will be kept. Lonely People will not be one of the cuts, due to the sample clearance. Word straight from Kwe is that hes got tracks from Kanye West, Just Blaze, Hi-Tek, and Neptunes.

I cant wait for this to drop!

Just bought my tickets to The Filmore show for May 25th! I missed TK the last couple of times he was around but this'll be a lot better since it's at the Filmore - that's what I'm hoping at least... I think it'll be bumpin' regardless!

See you at the show.

Mos Def - Close Edge

Mos Def Lyrics - Rap Lyrics
Close Edge
[Mos Def]
Pull up to ya spot on low
Shine brighter than all o' them cats they got on glow
Layin the cut like they not gon' know
Cuz if I gotta make a move dawg they not gonna know
This door marked private this is not fo' sho'
It's Mos Def what you call real fo' sho'
Is they what you call gangsta, hell no
They get a lil' pitch and go snitch to the po'
They all talk fast and they all think slow
I'm Mos Definite, not think so
Flood ya city with the black ink flow
And my crew ain't scared to let them things go
So, stop with the nonsense, like he conscious
I'm just alright dawg, I'm doin' great dawg
I don't play games so I don't playa hate y'all
Get it straight or get the fuck up out my face dawg
I'm like the second plane that made the tower's face off
That shit that let you know it's really not a game dawg
Your grind and my grindin is same dawg
I'm the catalogue, you the same song
So cool and ol' school like A4?
The one ya lil mami windin' up on ways for
The name that real niggaz got they hands raised for
Me and Mini got ya block yellow taped off
Don't push me (get off)
'Cuz I'm close - To the streets,
to the beach, the bitches, the niggaz,
the women, the children, the workers,
the killers, the addicts, the dealers
the quiet, the livest, the realest
- And that's close
Don't push me, cuz I'm close
To the edge, back, middle, and front
Strong back shit liftin' it up
From the big and the small
I'm like J. Brown +Gettin' Involved+
But when I'm lettin' off around don't get in the cross
Have ya preacher man speakin' low gettin' his cross
Tell 'em wild cowboy not to get off they horse
Before they find out the tailon is strictly enforced
It's a real bad way to get ya name in the Source
Testin' the limits of a dangerous force
Ya ended up dumb famous and gone
Your people shoutin' out ya name in they song
Pourin' liquor on the day you was born
Find paint to put ya face on the wall
C'mon fall back, there's no need for all that
It's all good, we all here, goin' all out (all out)
All day, listen when this song say
Don't push me 'cuz I'm close - To the streets,
to the beach, the bitches, the niggaz,
the women, the children, the workers,
the killers, the addicts, the dealers
the quiet, the livest, the realest
- And that's close
Don't push me, cuz I'm close
To the edge, back, middle, and front
Strong back shit liftin' it up
From the big and the small
I'm like J. Brown +Gettin' Involved+
Now get yours
[Hook]
Boom diggy bang-di-bang-di, boom bang diggy (repeated 24x)

I happend to be one of those who like Kwali as much as I like Mos

to put Mos out there with out Kwali is like not balancing ying with yand
you do them both a great injustice

I saw him back in like 96 or 97 when he was touring with Tribe CQ and noone knew who he was. Q-tip was like, this is my boy Mos Def, keep your ear to the streets for him, and then he proceeded to grab the mic and straight Rip it. Been a fan ever since...

but what a way to come up, tourn with Tribe, i dunno if it gets better than that
